Courses taken as part of the concentration cannot also meet a Core Course requirement for the M.Ed. The four Core Courses must be distinct from the four Concentration Courses except in the case of GED 577. If a candidate plans to complete GED 577 as part of a concentration/certificate program and is also completing the M.Ed., GED 577 must be the final course in the M.Ed. program to fulfill the Advanced Inquiry core requirement. If GED 577 is taken earlier in the program, the candidate would be required to take GED 699 to fulfill the Advanced Inquiry core requirement and complete the M.Ed.
M.Ed. candidates must select one of the follow concentrations:
Arts Integration in Schools & Communities
Curriculum & Instructional Design
Environmental Education
Literacy
Racial Equity & Educational Justice
School Leadership
Holistic Restorative Education
Special Education
Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages
Students who complete this concentration also complete the Graduate Certificate in Racial Equity & Educational Justice requirements. A separate application to the REEJ Program is required to earn the certificate.
Students who complete this concentration also complete the Graduate Certificate in Holistic Restorative Education requirements. A separate application to the HRE Program is required to earn the certificate.
Complete two advisor-approved electives.
Within the Advanced Concentration in School Leadership, students may pursue one of the following endorsements:
Director of Curriculum
Director of Special Education*
Principal
The coursework required for all three endorsements is identical.
Complete an advisor-approved elective.
Within the Advanced Concentration in Special Education, students may pursue one of the following endorsements:
Special Educator Endorsement: Grades K-8
Special Educator Endorsement: Grade 7-Age 21
Special Educator Endorsement: Grade K-Age 21
The coursework required for all three endorsements is identical.
