Academic Support Services
Accessibility Services
The offices of the Vice President for Student Affairs and Accessibility Services collaboratively manage services for students with disabilities. Accessibility Services works closely with campus partners - the Bergeron Wellness Center, Registrar’s Office, Housing, Dining, Public Safety and Facilities - to coordinate academic services and campus accessibility needs for students with documented disabilities.
Accommodation Policy
Saint Michael’s College is committed to providing equal access to academic programs and services for all students with disabilities, in accordance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This includes, but is not limited to, disabilities that are physical, sensory, psychological, medical, or learning in nature.
Students seeking accommodations must provide current documentation from a licensed professional - such as a psychologist, medical doctor, therapist, or learning specialist - that clearly outlines the nature of the disability and its impact on learning or access to the educational environment. Accessibility Services staff will review documentation and work with each student to determine reasonable accommodations that support full participation in college life.Academic Support Services
The Writing Center
The Writing Center offers free help with writing of all kinds, at all stages of the process. Coaches are extensively trained students who can ask the questions and give the answers you need to improve your writing.
Writers of all sorts use the Center: first-year students revising their first papers; international students wrangling with English idioms and articles; LD students with proofreading to do; journalism and business students wanting to “cut the lard”; even seniors and graduate students working on their theses. The atmosphere is friendly, relaxed and supportive. For students who love writing, the Center can also be a place to get teaching experience, support fellow students, and add valuable skills to a resume.
Tutoring & Study Skills
Many undergraduate students receive support through peer tutors who are placed in courses with high-demand, primarily in the sciences, math, statistics, accounting, and economics. These “attached tutors” offer weekly small group and drop-in sessions. Students may also access individualized peer tutoring in a variety of content areas, as well as group programming on study habits, time management, motivation, and goal setting.
