Academic Support Services
Accessibility Services
The offices of the Vice President for Student Affairs and Accessibility Services collaboratively manage services for students with disabilities. Accessibility Services works closely with campus partners - the Bergeron Wellness Center, Registrar’s Office, Housing, Dining, Public Safety and Facilities - to coordinate academic services and campus accessibility needs for students with documented disabilities.
Accommodation Policy
Saint Michael’s College is committed to providing equal access to academic programs and services for all students with disabilities, in accordance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This includes, but is not limited to, disabilities that are physical, sensory, psychological, medical, or learning in nature.
Students seeking accommodations must provide current documentation from a licensed professional - such as a psychologist, medical doctor, therapist, or learning specialist - that clearly outlines the nature of the disability and its impact on learning or access to the educational environment. Accessibility Services staff will review documentation and work with each student to determine reasonable accommodations that support full participation in College life.
The Writing Center
The Writing Center provides free support for all types of writing at every stage of the process. Peer writing coaches—extensively trained students—guide writers by asking targeted questions and offering practical feedback to help strengthen and clarify their work.
Writers from across the campus community use the Center: first-year students revising early papers; multilingual writers navigating English idioms and articles; students seeking focused proofreading support; and communications and business students aiming for concise, effective prose. Seniors and graduate students working on theses also benefit from consultations. The atmosphere is welcoming, relaxed, and supportive. For those interested in writing and teaching, the Center also offers opportunities to serve as peer coaches—gaining teaching experience, supporting fellow students, and developing valuable professional skills.
Tutoring & Study Skills
Many undergraduate students receive support through peer tutors who are placed in courses with high-demand, primarily in the sciences, math, statistics, accounting, and economics. These “attached tutors” offer weekly small group and drop-in sessions. Students may also access individualized peer tutoring in a variety of content areas, as well as group programming on study habits, time management, motivation, and goal setting.
