Saint Michael’s College awards degrees three times per academic year: in December (after fall term), in May (after spring term), and in August (after summer term). For August and December graduates, degrees are added to transcripts and diplomas are mailed within three weeks of the official graduation date. May graduates generally receive diplomas at the May Commencement ceremony. Degrees are added to May graduates’ student records within one week of Commencement. For those who do not attend Commencement, diplomas are mailed within three weeks following the ceremony.

Participation in Commencement

Graduating

Students who have completed all of their degree requirements by the end of a given spring semester are fully eligible to participate in May Commencement Exercises. Graduates will have their names called, process across the stage to receive their diploma cover, and have their names included in the Commencement program.

Walking

Undergraduate students who are within eight credits of meeting their degree requirements are eligible to “walk” at the May Commencement Exercises. Students who have earned 120 (or more) credits but have more than eight credits of outstanding requirements to earn their degree are not eligible to walk. "Walkers" must be able to satisfy all degree requirements by taking eight or fewer credits.

Graduate students who are able to satisfy their degree requirements the summer after May Commencement Exercises may be approved to walk with the permission of their Graduate Program Director.

Robing

Undergraduate students who are not eligible to graduate or “walk” (as outlined above) – yet feel an affiliation with the graduating class – may “robe” for the Commencement ceremony. “Robers” process with their class at the beginning and end of the ceremony. They do not have their names called, and they are not listed in the Commencement program.

Latin Honors

Undergraduates who complete their degree requirements with the cumulative grade point averages specified below receive their degrees with Latin Honors as designated below. In calculating Latin Honors, grade point averages are truncated; they are not rounded up or down.
