Program Description

The Master of Arts in Teaching with a concentration in Middle Grades Education is a state-approved program leading to initial licensure to teach grades 5–9 in English, social studies, science, or mathematics. The program is designed to prepare prospective teachers to meet the unique developmental and academic needs of young adolescents. Through a combination of rigorous coursework in content pedagogy, adolescent development, and culturally responsive teaching, along with extensive field-based experiences, students gain the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in middle school settings. Practicum and full-time student teaching placements in local classrooms provide opportunities to learn from experienced educators and college supervisors. Graduates are well-prepared to create supportive, engaging, and equitable learning environments that nurture intellectually reflective, caring, and ethical learners.
