Program Description

The minor in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) at Saint Michael’s College provides a strong foundation in the core skills required to teach English as an additional language. This interdisciplinary program benefits students in a variety of fields. Language majors gain deeper insight into linguistic and cultural aspects of language acquisition; students preparing for study abroad can engage with international students and New Americans through tutoring and conversation partnerships; and those pursuing careers in education or international communication develop valuable cross-cultural competence. The TESOL minor also offers a streamlined path to the Master of Arts in TESOL, allowing students who complete the minor to earn the graduate degree in just one calendar year after graduation.
