Program Description
Saint Michael’s College offers a state-approved Master of Arts in Teaching program that leads to licensure as a secondary teacher in grades 7-12 in the following subject areas: English, Modern and Classical Languages (Spanish, French), Mathematics, General Science (or Science limited to Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science and/or Physics), and Social Studies. This program prepares future educators to meet the academic, social, and developmental needs of diverse adolescent learners. Through a blend of rigorous coursework in subject-area pedagogy, adolescent psychology, and culturally responsive teaching, students develop the skills to create inclusive and engaging classroom environments. The program includes both practicum and full-time student teaching placements in secondary school settings, where students work closely with experienced mentors and college supervisors. Graduates emerge as confident, reflective educators equipped to support the success of all learners.
