Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Departments and Programs

This full-time English language program provides intensive English instruction (23.5 hours per week) on a year-round basis. The program offers opportunities for short-term or extended study for international students who wish to improve their proficiency in English. Special English programs for groups are offered in summers and during the academic year. The period of time students spend in this program is determined by personal objectives, English proficiency goals, and progress in meeting objectives. Students may use the IEP to prepare for matriculation at Saint Michael’s College, entry into the Saint Michael’s Academic English Program, or for career advancement or personal development. Proficiency tests are given throughout the program to ensure that students are placed in the appropriate level of English study (from beginner to advanced). Students are advanced progressively according to individual achievement in meeting level objectives. For students who matriculate at Saint Michael’s, up to six credits earned for 16 weeks or more of intensive English study may be applied as elective credits towards completion of their undergraduate degree requirements. The IEP is accredited by the Commission for English Language Program Accreditation (CEA) and is a member of the University and College Intensive English Programs (UCIEP) and the American Association of Intensive English Programs (AAIEP -  also known as EnglishUSA).
