HI 101 - U.S. History to 1865 This course presents an overview early American history, from the sixteenth century to the end of the American Civil War, including the colonial era, the American Revolution, Jacksonian Democracy, slavery, expansionism, and other diverse themes. The course examines trends in American social relations, economics, politics and culture, and explores the lives of ordinary people as well national leaders. By learning how past generations lived and acted, students will deepen their own perspectives on contemporary America.
