FS 131 - Watch Your Language This course is based on the premise that an understanding of language, as well as the effective use of language in meaningful dialogue, is necessary to communicate with and learn from each other, to address important social issues and to promote the creation of just multicultural communities. This course will explore ways in which language is used to create, maintain and shape social relationships and cultural attitudes. Students will investigate topics in which language exerts great influence (e.g. politics, advertising, media, gender roles). The course will also help to develop an appreciation for the richness, flexibility and power of language, in addition to using language more effectively in speech and writing.
