LL 220 - Languages of the World


This course introduces students to the concept of language families and to the linguistic, cultural, political, and economic effects of languages in contact over time. Basic principles of historical, anthropological, and socio-linguistics are applied to a variety of languages. A primary goal of the course is to give students the tools to understand the role of languages in globalization and the relation of globalization to the evolution of languages.

Credits: 3 cr.
