HI 346 - Visual Culture of the Middle Ages This course will focus on images of power, piety, and belief in the European Middle Ages (c. 200 - c. 1450), from late Roman to late Gothic. Rural landscapes, town planning, and the role of archeology in understanding medieval art and life will be explored, along with the evolution of different types of architecture, including mosques, monasteries, cathedrals, castles, and houses.
