For over 30 years, Saint Michael’s Academic English Program (AEP) has successfully prepared international students for undergraduate university level work.  Now, the AEP is also available for graduate students.

The MATESOL Pathway Program (MPP) provides academic language preparation for students with high-intermediate to advanced English proficiency who are conditionally admitted to the Masters in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (MATESOL) program at Saint Michael’s College.

MPP students take two credit-bearing MATESOL courses, as well as two AEP courses designed to prepare students for graduate study.

Upon completion of the MPP, students will have a total of 6 credits out of the 36 required to complete the MATESOL program.  The program is one full semester (16 weeks) and is offered in the fall, spring and summer terms.

Successful completion of the MPP is defined as earning a Grade Point Average of 3.0/4.0 with no grades lower than C and meeting our English-language proficiency requirements.

Requirements

  • Conditional admission to the MATESOL program
  • TOEFL of 71 iBT (530 PBT) or IELTS of 6.0 (with no subtest below 5.5)

Students whose English test scores do not meet this requirement may apply to study in our Intensive English Program.
