Arts Concentration Information
The Arts in Education program is designed to help participants affirm the indispensable role the arts (visual and performing) have in schools and society. Classroom teachers, art teachers, artists, administrators, and other educators join together to explore how to engage students of all ages learning with and through the arts. In supportive environments students immerse in the creative process; reflect on cultural and aesthetic sensibilities; work individually and collaboratively to develop and practice innovative and interdisciplinary teaching; participate in and apply statewide initiatives, and address such themes as social justice and sustainability through an arts lens. Those who join our program are willing to expand creative boundaries and discover the role arts play in developing expressive and critical voice. Partnership with the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts, the Integrated Arts Academy at H.O. Wheeler Elementary School, The Fleming Museum at the University of Vermont, and Burlington City Art enrich the Arts in Education program.
