Curriculum Concentration Information

The Curriculum concentration in Graduate Programs in Education combines theoretical understanding with practical applications. “Curriculum” is an inclusive concept, comprising orientation, philosophy, design, development, implementation, assessment, and evaluation. A thorough knowledge of modern curricula in a historical context is provided with a focus on whole systems and integrative understanding, as well as specific skills applicable to all levels of curriculum design and development. The program is planned to give educators and administrators the necessary understanding and strategies to develop and evaluate school curricula. From a broad base, educators will be able to delve more deeply into areas of their choice. This concentration does not correspond to a State of Vermont licensure program. While the primary focus is K-12 public school settings, the concentration is applicable to all levels and a variety of contexts in which curriculum is developed and utilized.

M.Ed. Curriculum Required Courses (15 credits)

All students must take the following four courses (12 credits):

• GED 509 - Integrative Curriculum Credits: 3 cr.
• GED 511 - Fundamentals of Curriculum Credits: 3 cr.
• GED 558 - Educator as Researcher Credits: 3 cr.
• GED 699 - Capstone Seminar in Graduate Education Credits: 3 cr.

Electives (21 credits)

Students choose twenty-one credit hours from graduate education courses, as approved by advisor.
