GED 643 - Multisensory Language-Based Literacy Instruction for Students with DisabilitiesThis course provides an in-depth study of research-based practices and materials to be implemented when working with students with reading and writing difficulties. Participants will develop sound assessment skills that will inform and guide their practice with struggling learners, including those with dyslexia. Participants will learn to develop comprehensive learning profiles of students to target areas of relative strength to build upon as well as areas of relative weakness to address during instruction. Methods used to teach phonemic awareness, decoding, comprehension, vocabulary development, spelling, study skills and written expression will be covered. The emphasis of the course is on pre-k through elementary level practices. Course times include practicum experience with elementary students.
Prerequisites: GED 522 Teaching Literacy in the Elementary Classroom or have Elementary License.
Credits: 3 cr.
