GPS 505 - Psychopharmacological Agents and Physiological PsychologyThis course will review the cognitive, neurological, physiological, and psychological effects of psychoactive drugs such as sedatives, stimulants, opiates, antidepressants, alcohol, and hallucinogens. The anatomy, physiology, and endocrinology of the brain that are influenced by these drugs will also be reviewed, as will the use of psychoactive drugs in treatment of a variety of mental and physical disorders in both adults and children.
Prerequisites: Bachelor’s Degree, Introduction to Psychology and Physiological Psychology or its equivalent. The instructor recommends reviewing Neil R. Carlson’s Behavioral Neuroscience text prior to enrolling in this course.
