HI 143 - Modern East Asia A survey of social, political, and cultural changes in China and Japan from the eighteenth century to the present. We will compare the paths of development the two nations have taken in the past two centuries. The hallmark of this course will be the critical examination of the contemporary relevance of China’s past and its implications for the future of our shared humanity.
