GED 578 - Visual Learning: Words into Pictures

By linking visual literacy with academic and creative writing, this three-week course focuses on the intersection of words and images where participants bring their own writing to pictorial life. We begin with an exploration of descriptive drawing fundamentals.  By learning basic strategies of drawing we enrich our abilities to examine image-based journals and memoirs composed by students from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds. By engaging in visual learning skills we expand how to communicate thoughts and emotions by combining written text and imagery.  Final visual narrative projects in the form of artist books, drawings or prints will be designed to respond to participants’ professional and creative interests.  This course welcomes educators from all levels of artistic and written experience who seek innovative ways to link literacy, art, and multicultural awareness.
