GED 505 - Understanding and Using the Common CoreThe overall goal of the Common Core initiative is to develop a set of shared national standards ensuring that students in every state are held to the same level of expectations and gain the knowledge and skills that will prepare them for success in postsecondary education and in the global arena. This course will examine the Common Core Standards in the context of a comprehensive look at the history of the standards movement in education. It will also break down and analyze the format and requirements of the Common Core Standards; discuss implementation and alignment to existing curricula; and look at necessary curriculum changes resulting from the alignment of the Common Core Standards to current assessment and pedagogical practices.
