MATESOL Plus PreK-12 ESL Endorsement for Licensed Teachers

Licensed Vermont school teachers seeking to add an ESL endorsement may take the following classes within the 36-credit MATESOL program to fulfill all academic competencies required by the Vermont Department of Education. The coursework includes an embedded practicum component to meet state-mandated student teaching requirements.

GSL 500 - Introduction to Language and Linguistics Credits: 4 cr.
GSL 502 - English Grammar Credits: 4 cr.
Plus 20 hours 7-12 grammar practicum
GSL 506 - Master’s Seminar Credits: 2 cr.
GSL 542 - Theory and Method in Language Teaching Credits: 4 cr.
GSL 543 - Teaching of Oral Skills in ESOL and English Phonology Credits: 4 cr.
GSL 546 - K-12 Literacy in ESOL Credits: 4 cr.
Plus 20 hours K-6 literacy practicum
GSL 547 - ESOL in the Content Areas Credits: 4 cr.
Plus 20 hours K-12 practicum
GSL 612 - Bilingualism and Multicultural Education Credits: 3 cr.
GSL 655 - Language Learning & Assessment for Children Credits: 3 cr.
