Curriculum Concentration Information

The Curriculum concentration in Graduate Programs in Education combines theoretical understanding with practical applications. “Curriculum” is an inclusive concept, comprising orientation, philosophy, design, development, implementation, assessment, and evaluation. A thorough knowledge of modern curricula in a historical context is provided with a focus on whole systems and integrative understanding, as well as specific skills applicable to all levels of curriculum design. The program is planned to give teachers and administrators the necessary understanding and strategies to develop and evaluate school curricula. From a broad base, teachers will be able to delve more deeply into areas of their choice. This concentration does not correspond to a State of Vermont licensure program. While primary focus is K-12 public school settings, the concentration is applicable to all levels and a variety of contexts in which curriculum is developed and utilized. A maximum of eighteen credits of the coursework towards teacher licensure may be applied to the requirements for the M.Ed. degree.
