GSL 612 - Bilingualism and Multicultural Education

This course explores issues of bilingualism and multiculturalism with special reference to linguistically and culturally diverse students in U.S. schools.  We start by examining the nature of bilingualism and its development.  Next, we explore schooling issues including alternative approaches to the education of bilinguals, and finally we focus on multicultural issues within and beyond the classroom.  The course offers its members, who will one day be involved with bilingual or multicultural education, a comprehensive and critical perspective on the field.
