RS 340 - Saints and Holiness

In this course, we will examine the role that saints and their stories have had on the development of the Church. This course will examine the role that saints’ and their stories have played in the development of Christian communities in the late ancient and early Medieval period. This course pays special attention to the interplay in the construction of Christian hagiographical discourse:a way of talking about the saints in liturgy and story. Focus will be on understanding the Lives of the Saints as a lens towards understanding Christian culture of the late-ancient and early medieval world.

Prerequisites: Completion of LSC requirements in “Christian Traditions and Thought”.
