EC 325 - Economics of Health Care Study of health care systems in theory and in practice. Topics include the dynamics of insurance markets; the scope for competition in health-care provision; the causes for rising costs; and the incentive for innovation. The implications of these dynamics for different health care systems will be explored. Different health-care systems including Canadian-style government provision, European-style single payer, and the U.S. public/private hybrid will be evaluated on the ground of access, quality, and cost. Student teams will design health-care systems for fictional countries.
Prerequisites: EC 101 or EC 103
Credits: 4 cr.
